From a Classroom to a Cultural Journey: The Transformation of Class 10A through English Learning

(Cao Linh Chi)

In what seemed like a normal English lesson, as soft morning light spread across the classroom and pages slowly turned, a quiet transformation began. The lesson was no longer limited to learning vocabulary or practicing grammar structures. Instead, it gradually became a space where ideas were formed, creativity was encouraged, and students found new ways to express themselves. In that moment, English was no longer just a compulsory subject, but a meaningful tool that allowed students to explore their identities and connect with a wider world.

Before taking part in this experience, class 10A had been widely known as a specialized science class, where students showed strong abilities in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Logical thinking, careful analysis, and accuracy were considered their main strengths. However, this identity also created a common assumption: that students in 10A mainly belonged to the field of natural sciences. The English brochure project, therefore, played an important role in changing this perception. It offered students a chance to step beyond familiar boundaries and discover new abilities that had not been fully recognized before.

The process of completing the project required serious effort and careful planning. Students had to choose suitable topics, collect and evaluate information, write content in English, design layouts, and complete their final products. Each stage demanded not only language knowledge but also other important skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity. Throughout this process, many students revealed talents that had previously remained hidden. Some showed strong writing skills with clear and well-organized ideas. Others demonstrated artistic ability through drawings and design. There were also students who took responsibility for organizing tasks and connecting team members effectively. This variety of strengths helped improve the overall quality of the project and reflected the diverse potential within class 10A.

Beyond skill development, the project also had a deeper cultural meaning. The brochures about places such as Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, and Ho Chi Minh City were not simple descriptions. Instead, they presented these destinations through thoughtful perspectives, combining historical, cultural, and practical information. When writing about these locations in English, students needed to understand them more deeply, rather than just repeat basic facts. As a result, they developed a stronger awareness of their own country and a greater appreciation for its values. At the same time, they learned how to introduce Vietnam to an international audience in a clear and engaging way. In this sense, English became a bridge connecting academic knowledge with real-life understanding, and personal learning with national identity.

In the context of global integration, the importance of English continues to grow. It is not only a subject in school but also a key tool for communication, education, and international cooperation. Therefore, it is necessary to apply more practical and interactive teaching methods. Lessons like this project are especially valuable because they allow students to actively participate instead of passively receiving knowledge. Through such experiences, students do not simply learn the language; they learn how to use it to express ideas, present information, and communicate confidently. The brochure project of class 10A is a clear example of how effective this approach would be.

From a broader perspective, the project has also changed how students see themselves. Many began to realize that their abilities are not limited to one specific field. Instead, they are capable of developing in multiple directions if given the right opportunities. This realization helped build confidence and encouraged students to challenge themselves in new areas. As each individual improved, the whole class also became more dynamic, supportive, and motivated. The learning environment was no longer focused only on academic results, but also on personal growth and soft skills.

In addition, working in groups played an important role in developing essential social skills. Students learned how to listen to different opinions, give constructive feedback, and solve problems together. These skills are not only useful in school but also important for future careers and real-life situations. Therefore, the value of the project does not lie only in the final brochures, but also in the process that helped students grow in knowledge, skills, and attitudes.

Looking back, it is obvious that class 10A is gradually redefining its identity. From being known mainly as a strong science class, it is now becoming a more balanced and flexible group, where logical thinking and creativity exist together. This transformation did not happen suddenly. It is the result of continuous effort, innovative learning methods, and a willingness to change.

In the future, as the world becomes more connected and demanding, experiences like this will play an important role in preparing students for new challenges. Class 10A, with what they have achieved so far, has a strong foundation to continue developing-not only academically, but also as confident individuals in a global environment.

From a simple English lesson, a meaningful journey has begun. It is not only a journey of learning a language, but also a journey of self-discovery, cultural understanding, and preparation for the future. Step by step, through effort and creativity, class 10A is moving closer to becoming the best version of itself.
